Call for Art in Glow Proposals

By McKenzie Jones Rounds, February 22, 2016

Ithaca Festival is inviting artists to submit proposals for its inaugural Art in Glow event, a public street art installation using glow in the dark spray paint. Three to five artists will be chosen to paint a stretch of sidewalk during Ithaca Festival weekend on Saturday, June 4 (exact location and size to be determined). The festival will take place between downtown Ithaca and the Commons and the Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC) neighborhood and Markles Flats.

Interested artists (individuals or small groups) should send any questions and all of the following information to by 5pm on Tuesday, March 1:

•Short personal/artist bio
•Brief description of your proposal
•Describe the fit with our theme “Mix it Up”
•Provide potential dimensions /ratios
•Describe any community participation
•Concept sketch of your proposal
•Examples of related work

Proposals will be juried on March 2 based on their creativity, feasibility, and incorporation of elements of Ithaca’s diverse culture. Chosen artists will be contacted shortly thereafter. Spray paint supplies (glowing and standard) will be provided for artists. People of all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. There is an anticipated attendance of 15,000 people at the festival on June 4, so we expect there to be a large audience for the chosen artists.

This project is made possible in part by a grant from the Tompkins County Tourism Program.
